About raster.gg

raster.gg is a collection of free image tools for the everyday jobs people actually have: turning an iPhone HEIC photo into a JPG someone can open, shrinking a PNG so it fits an upload limit, cropping a picture to a square, or stripping location data before sharing a photo online.

Why we built it

Most online image converters work by uploading your file to a server, processing it there, and sending the result back. That is slow on a phone connection, it often comes with file size caps and watermarks, and it means a copy of your personal photos sits on someone else's computer. Modern browsers are powerful enough that none of this is necessary, so raster.gg does the work on your own device instead.

How it works

When you open a tool, your browser downloads a small amount of code. When you add images, that code reads them from your device and processes them in background threads called Web Workers, so the page stays responsive. Decoding and encoding use well-known open-source codecs compiled to WebAssembly, including MozJPEG for JPG, Oxipng for PNG, libwebp for WebP, libavif for AVIF and libheif for HEIC. Each codec is downloaded only when you first need it.

The result is that your images are never uploaded. There is no server involved in the conversion, nothing to store and nothing to delete afterwards. Our privacy policy explains exactly what we do and do not collect.

What you can do here

  • Image Converter: Convert photos and graphics to JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF or ICO, open HEIC, GIF, BMP, TIFF and SVG files, or combine images into one PDF, right in your browser. Your images are never uploaded.
  • Image Compressor: Make JPG, PNG and WebP files smaller without uploading them anywhere. Compare the size before and after, then download the result.
  • Image Resizer: Make images smaller by exact pixel size or by percentage, for a whole batch at once. Your photos stay on your device.
  • Image Cropper: Trim images to any shape or to a standard aspect ratio, and apply the same crop to a whole batch. Your photos stay on your device.
  • Rotate and Flip: Turn sideways photos upright, or mirror them, for a whole batch at once. Everything happens on your device.
  • Metadata Remover: Strip hidden data such as GPS location and camera details from JPG, PNG and WebP files without changing a single pixel. Your photos stay on your device.

Every tool accepts several files at once, and you can download results individually or as a single zip file.

How it is paid for

raster.gg is free, with no accounts, usage limits or watermarks. Running a website costs money, so the site is supported by advertising from Google AdSense. We keep ads out of the way of the tools themselves, and we only ever show them around the content, never inside your images or results.
