Compress

Compress PNG Images

Make PNG files smaller without any loss of quality. The compression happens on your device and your images are never uploaded.

Compression options

PNG is always lossless: your pixels stay identical and the file is just packed more tightly.

Your images never leave your device

How to use Compress PNG

  1. Drop your PNG files on the page or pick them from your device.
  2. Wait while each file is recompressed, then compare the size before and after.
  3. Download each compressed PNG, or all of them together as a zip.

Frequently asked questions

Does compressing a PNG reduce its quality?

No. PNG compression is lossless, so every pixel stays exactly the same. Only the way the data is packed changes.

Why didn't my PNG get much smaller?

Photographs and noisy images have little for lossless compression to remove. For a big reduction, convert the PNG to JPG, or to WebP if you need transparency.

Does the compressed PNG keep transparency?

Yes. Transparent backgrounds and semi-transparent edges are preserved.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Compression runs in your browser with WebAssembly. Your files stay on your device, and there is no signup or watermark.

About Compress PNG

PNG is lossless, which changes what compression means. The picture cannot be made blurrier to save space, because every pixel is preserved. Instead, the tool recompresses the same pixels more efficiently, so the result looks identical to the original but takes less space. The saving varies by image: screenshots, diagrams and graphics with large flat areas often shrink noticeably, while photographs shrink very little.

If the savings are not enough, the cause is usually the content, not the settings. PNG stores photographs inefficiently, and a photo saved as PNG may be five to ten times bigger than the same picture as JPG. For a photo with no transparency, converting to JPG is the answer, and for graphics that need transparency, WebP produces much smaller files than PNG. The PNG compressor is for when you need to stay in PNG, for example because a platform or design workflow requires it.

Reducing the dimensions is another effective option. A PNG with half the width and height has a quarter of the pixels and is much smaller. Use the resizer for that, then compress. The tool works on a batch of files at once and can return them as one zip. Because nothing is uploaded, you can safely compress screenshots that contain private information.
